Ranger Guided Horseback Tours Available by Request at Petersburg National Battlefield
If you own a horse and would like to see history from a different perspective, come join a knowledgeable park ranger as
he leads you on a horseback tour of Petersburg National Battlefield.
Venture off the beaten path and travel through areas where soldiers built trenches, rested in huts, bonded with other
soldiers, and suffered the deprivations of war. Soldiers from north and south spent nine and a half months either
defending Petersburg or trying to conquer it. Your visit may only be for the afternoon but once you have completed the
tour, you’ll have a better understanding of what was the longest event of the American Civil War. Emphasis will be given
to the role of horses and mules in Army life.
For more information and/or reservations, please call ranger Randy Watkins at (804) 732-3531.
